TAURANGA SOCIETY OF ARTISTS INC.

I have been painting 5 years but have been involved in art and crafts of many kinds for most of my life. My Mother was an artist and my Father a potter as was his Father before him. As a child I loved to watch my mother paint in oils and water colours -the exciting transition from the under-painting to the emergence of a finished work of art. I studied painting at school, but didn't continue with art until approaching retirement
I taught myself to paint in watercolour but I now mostly paint in acrylics and prefer landscapes and flowers, often stylised. My passion involves the use of strong colours and textures. I also enjoy creating abstract textured pieces which brings a different challenge and feeling to the work. This genre is an outlet for creativity and imagination and is very satisfying for me. I love the unexpected twists and turns that occur in creating mixed media pieces.
I have been a Committee member for a year and Secretary of the Tauranga Society of Artists for two years as well as a member of the Exhibition Committee for three years. I have sold successfully within New Zealand and some of my work has gone overseas.
