TAURANGA SOCIETY OF ARTISTS INC.
Painting has become an important part of my life in recent years and joining the Tauranga Society of Artists has provided a platform to challenge and inspire me further.
I have lived in Tauranga with my husband since 1989 on our organic kiwifruit orchard. We have always spent a lot of time outdoors which means I prefer painting landscapes, buildings and nature. I enjoy taking photographs and digital photography is ideal for shooting views and landscapes as reference material and provides a reference catalogue of artworks sold or given away.
With the encouragement of members of Tauranga Society of Artists, I have painted subjects and used new mediums venturing from acrylics to oils and lately watercolours. I was fortunate to attend a recent workshop by American artist Karlyn Holman who has a very bright watercolour style and was a great inspiration to me. She told us that there are no boundaries with watercolours and showed us lots of techniques using this medium.
Over the last year I have been assisting with the monthly programme for the TSA and regularly attend the Wednesday sessions. I am joining the TSA committee at the April AGM as Treasurer.
The truism that I have found most useful is “paint what you see”.
