Dulcie Artus

Dulcie was born in Tauranga and has lived here most of her life. As a child she was always drawing, but as an adult, family and business commitments meant she didn't start painting seriously until after retiring in her late fifties. She inherited some oil paints and other equipment so started experimenting with those.

As a self taught artist, Dulcie has progressed considerably in learning the technique of oil painting and now considers herself to be an accomplished artist with particular expertise in finely detailed realism.  Winning a number of awards with the Tauranga Society of Artists confirms this.

Initially concentrating on land and seascape, Dulcie worked on the beauty of nature and portraying its various moods.  Advancing from there the subject matter began to include more bush and water reflections, old houses and boats.  Recently Dulcie has tackled a wide variety of subjects drawing on her travel experiences overseas and now includes portraiture as being amongst her best achievements.  She has also been given a number of commissions.

Joining the Tauranga Society of Artists was a big encouragement to really get into art as a hobby.  Dulcie especially enjoys the companionship of other artists and learning from the whole experience.  She is now a serving committee member bringing different skills to play in working for the Society.
