Doreen Watson

Since becoming a member of the Tauranga Society of Artists in 1994, Doreen has enjoyed the camaraderie of many like-minded people. She has participated in Society Programs, taken part in Art Exhibitions and displayed her work over the ensuing years at Art in the Park at Mt. Maunganui .

Having no formal Art Education and being mainly self taught, she has explored all the different mediums, firstly pastel, followed by watercolour, then acrylic and more recently oil painting which is now becoming a firm favourite.

Doreen's work is described as representational and she has a deep love for the New Zealand landscape whether it be bush, old settlers cottages or beautiful lake and river scenes. She has had four solo exhibitions over the years and paintings have been sold throughout New Zealand and also to overseas buyers from Japan, Bahamas, Canada, Australia and England .

At the Society mid-winter competitions held in June she was awarded the Eric Hussey Cup for Landscape for an oil painting of the Whanganui River .

Doreen currently holds office as President of the Tauranga Society of Artists, a position she finds at times challenging but also extremely rewarding to see the Art Society moving forward in such good spirit.
