Debbie Emslie

Debbie has enjoyed drawing and painting for as long as she can remember but especially enjoys the elusive quality of watercolour.

During the last eight years Debbie has concentrated her efforts on studying this difficult, rewarding and often frustrating medium, slowly gaining in confidence to produce some inspiring pieces of artwork.

Having gained a degree in Art and Creativity at Erskine College in Wellington and having studied under some of the top Australian watercolour artists, she has had a strong grounding in this medium. She continues to develop her own style.

Debbie prefers working on location and has been privileged to have travelled overseas with some of these internationally renowned artists to paint the subjects she loves. Old buildings, narrow cobbled alleyways, boats and harbour and beach scenes being favourites. Not being interested in a static, photographic “copy” of the scene but in a more impressionistic style, creating images to inspire the viewer.

Being a relative newcomer to Tauranga her work is slowly becoming recognised within the district through the biannual Garden and Art Fest and Art Society exhibitions.

Valuable friendships having been made within the Tauranga and Omokoroa Art Societies, Debbie will continue to be challenged and grow alongside her peers.
